Views Of Yosemite Valley By Carleton E Watkins

Carleton Eugene Watkins was a noted 19th century landscape photographer of the American west. He rose to prominence in the 1860's with his early mammoth plate photographs of the Californian mining industry, and of the Yosemite Valley and its environs. Later he went on to create photographic series based in an around California an Oregon.
Below is the series of mammoth plate photographs that he produced of the Yosemite Valley in the 1860's. The photographic series he produced, when viewed together, give a glimpse of the grandeur of Americas first national park.

Hey thar! Avid Yosemite researcher working on a project about the park's many artists. I can't help but notice that the majority of photographs you've posted are actually by Charles Leander Weed- first photographer to enter Yosemite Valley on June 17, 1859. Carlton Watkins did not visit Yosemite until 1861...
